Most people may have heard in Japan they have the Shinkansen (bullet train)..an absolutely amazing train.

Shinkansen

I wouldn’t usually post about trains, as I’m not really a massive fan of them.

I love the Shinkansen though, since the first time I saw one. My girlfriend keeps calling me an otaku おたく(geek) for liking them, but they are so cool :) .

The Shinkansen I caught from Shin-Yokohama to Odawara:

I’ve caught many of the trains and they are comfortable and they are so quick that, it only takes less then 3 hours to get from Tokyo to Osaka. I also found them pretty scary when your stopped and they go past as the whole train shook which I was on.

There are many variations, this is one I caught to Koriyama.

Rainbow Coloured Shinkansen:

“On March 12th, the Kyushu Shinkansen line, which connects Hakata to Kagoshima, fully opened. Since the massive earthquake and tsunami happened the day before, all the opening ceremonies were cancelled, and its celebratory commercial was immediately pulled off the air. To celebrate the first run of the rainbow-colored Shinkansen, more than 15,000 people showed up along the route across Kyushu. The sight of happy faces waving and performing was filmed from inside the train. Now, one month after the disaster, it is airing again in and the 3-minute version has become a hit online.”

Earlier this year another Shinkansen was launched from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori. The trains name is the Hayabusa (meaning ‘Falcon’ in English’) For more information click here or

I was told a rare Shinkansen is the yellow Shinkansen, named Dr.Yellow (ドクターイエロー?). These trains are actually the test trains used on the dedicated express passenger train route. You can view a video of the Dr.Yellow Shinkansen running here.
