When I travelled to London on the 25th June 2011, the 2011 Okinawa Day was taking place in Spitalfields. I couldn’t wait to get to this festival as my Twitter friend @hifumigamori had told me much about the Japanese island of Okinawa.
A welcoming flag.
On walking into the festival, small stalls had been set-up with Okinawa inspired items and also Japanese inspired items. I thought the character in the picture below was cute.
Many flags and posters:
I also found this card, and yes I hope to visit Japan again
.
I liked this design of a drummer.
One of the many stalls about had Japanese cranes which I always find beautiful and really cool as I have no idea when it comes to origami. One of the cute girls on the stall gave me one of the cranes which made me smile
.
On the same stall you could donate to Japan relief fund, which I did and at the same time I bought this wristband (がんばろう、日本)
I thought this was a spelling mistake at first, where it say’s “Play For Japan”, although I did some research and found that Play For Japan is a game relief fund. Find out more about Play For Japan.
I watched this Japanese Tea Ceromonie for a while.
Another stall offered cupcakes and even these Curry Roll’s (カルーパン)
During the event many performers took the centre stage, for example this Japanese pop singer.
I couldn’t resist taking a picture of this, which say’s “I love Okinawa”.
By this time I was hungry and wanting to try some of the Japanese/Okinawa food on offer. I found this cute Rilakkuma candy floss.
On offer they had soba, dragon tails and Okiniwa fish cakes.
I tried the yakisoba and Dragon Tail.
The dragon tail was so tasty, as it was a rice cake wrapped with nori and tempura.
To finish off the gorgeous Japanese food, I tried some sake.
I really enjoyed the Okinawa Day. For more information please visit the website > www.okinawaday.org.uk.
