Gouka Seishi, Sweets Paradise

Sweets Paradise is a buffet restaurant in Japan. I didn’t expect to go to one as usually Japanese food portions seemed pretty small to me, when I visited places with friends.

I was taken to a Sweets Paradise restaurant in Shibuya, Tokyo around lunchtime. Walking to the restaurant I had no idea what to expect as it looks pretty normal till you see the pink, red, orange sign. My girlfriend asked for a table for two and then we used a ticket machine (as you do in a Ramen shop) and choose if we just wanted drinks, food + drinks or desserts as well.

We then sat down and atmosphere seemed a little weird, I felt a bit of an outsider with being the only Western bloke in the place at the time, but I soon relaxed when I saw all the food!

Although the place is called “Sweets Paradise”, you can choose from different spaghetti pastas at first and soups which seemed a little weird to me? Then along an aisle, all you see are cakes! Any cake you can think of is pretty much on display. Click here to view the list.

As the restaurant is a buffet you can go up as many times as you want :D . I even saw the thinnest Gyaru (ギャル) I had ever seen with blonde hair, with a stack of plates higher then me from the table. I have no idea how she managed it.

As with most buffets you can go up and again and again, I managed only a few times but I wish I could go again!

On my way to Harajuku I noticed this Sweets Paradise above on Takeshita Dori, and found out after visiting the website that they have many locations around Japan.

Sweets Paradise is so popular, and I recommend anyone to go, if you fancy eating cakes for lunch or dinner :) .
